каждую тему конкретные
ситуации, распределенные
по тексту вопросы для обдумывания (как бизнеса, так и приведенной ситуации), заключение
к каждой главе, представленное в особом виде: содержание, процесс, контроль
и обучение
(что авторами называется интегральной структурой менеджмента).
Книга насквозь пронизана идеологией управления изменениями. Сильный аромат европейского
менеджмента (в том числе из-за европейских бизнес-ситуаций), или, скорее, меньше
американизма.

The paper studies the relations between technological strategies and market success
of firms, through an empirical analysis of the commercial aero-engine industry since
1948 to 1997 detailed at the level of competition among single firms products. It
uses a multidimensional measure of technical progress through Data Envelopment Analysis
(DEA) for measuring technological performances of single products and firms and data
on sales of each product over time for representing market success. The paper confirms
the existence of heterogeneity of firms technological strategies and draws some main
conclusions with respect to strategies of convergence and divergence from the technological
frontier, first mover advantage and survival of inefficient products.

Agency theory embeds the influential relationship that exist between managers and
shareholders of firms. This relationship has the potential to influence decision-making
in the firm which in turn has potential impacts on firm characteristics such as firm
value. Prior evidence has demonstrated an association between ownership structure
and firm value. This paper extends the literature by proposing a further link between
ownership structure and capital structure. Using an agency framework we argue that
the distribution of equity ownership among corporate managers and external blockholders
has a significant relationship with leverage. The paper tests four hypotheses that
explore various aspects of this relationship. The empirical results provide support
for a positive
relationship between external blockholders and leverage, a curvilinear relationship
between the level of managerial share ownership and leverage and finally, the results
suggest that the relationship between external block ownership and leverage varies
across the level of managerial share ownership. These results parallel and are consistent
with the active monitoring hypothesis, convergence-of-interests and the entrenchment
hypotheses which have been proposed in a different context.

User information is an important source of user-centered innovation. Through
the investigation of 47 user-centered case studies collected from leading design
consulting firms, this study aims to establish the relationship between user-research
and design innovation, to identify the research characteristics and analytic models
critical to each innovation situation, and to discuss where, why, and how the research
and analysis should be done so that information is gathered efficiently and is available
to the team at the right time in the multi-disciplinary design process. This study
suggests new approaches to user-research planning, an alternative mental model of
design innovation, and a different way of describing user-research in relation to
design innovation. The investigation reveals how user-research should be planned,
conducted and tailored for each innovation situation.

This paper attempts to analyze the association between corporate governance - measured
by the exercise of control by larger shareholders and the board of directors- and
corporate entrepreneurship for businesses quoted on the Madrid Stock-Exchange. Under
the hypothesis of management opportunist behavior and being consistent with agency
theory, this paper contrasts the existence of a greater corporate entrepreneurship
when an effective control over the management does not exist, and the executives
are significant shareholders. Thus, the authors examine two sources of influence
on managerial support for corporate entrepreneurship: the firms ownership structure
and its governance system. Their objective was to understand how firm characteristics
-in terms firm corporate governance attributes- influences the decisions about entering
in new businesses or markets.

The purpose of this paper is threefold. First, by proposing a first definition of
coopetiton, it aims to move away from the mere recognition of the oversimplified
conventional conception to a deeper understanding of the nature of coopetition. By
suggesting that coopetition is a matter of incomplete interest (and goal) congruence
concerning firms interdependence, the authors stress that coopetition does not simply
emerge from coupling competition and cooperation issues, but rather it implies that
cooperation and competition merge together to form a new kind of strategic interdependence
between firms, giving rise to a coopetitive system of value creation. Second, the
researchers advance a typology of coopetition based on the differing explanatory
variables of this incomplete interest (and goal) congruence. Third, with the support
of a number of coopetition microcases, especially referring to firms operating in
the automobile industry, the contribution and the potential of coopetition strategy
to the advancement of both strategic management, organization theory and managerial
practice was clarified.

Over the last years the resource-based view (RBV) of strategic management has attracted
wide academic and managerial attention. Drawing on RBV literature, this paper analyses
the interrelationships between RBV and organizational innovation. The authors examine
those aspects of RBV that critically determine the firms capacity to innovate by
integrating the relevant theoretical and empirical evidence. A number of contributions
setting the ground for future empirical research are provided.

In this study we analyze possible links between new institutional economics and stakeholder
management models. The authors' preliminary findings fit with the traditional political
organization argument: namely that firms organizational decision-making include explicit
and implicit aspects, shaped by institutional and technical constraints, and that
decisions have to be balanced from this perspective. As an illustrative empirical
material the authors use failed merger and acquisition process between United Airlines
and US Airways 2000 2001. The basic theorizing methods used in this paper are the
alternate template strategy, and comparative analysis between the two readings (texts).
The authors suggestion is that the two theoretical frameworks are complementary,
and could be useful when studying / estimating the influence of inter-organizational
negotiations to organizational decisionmaking, and especially strategizing.

Building on coevolution theory and existing knowledge about strategic and organizational
change, this paper develops a conceptual framework for studying change in organizations
as coevolution. The focus is on how organizations create constructed environmental
conditions, hence forming the context for themselves and other organizations and
their environment. The paper illustrates this problematic by focusing on the interplay
between public and private organizations. A set of propositions and an integrated
framework laying the ground for future empirical research are developed.

Drawing on a grounded theory research we present a model of organizational improvisation
which asserts that this phenomenon is triggered by an unexpected important event
brought about by a moderate level of turbulence, relying on a minimal structure and
simple resources. The success of improvisation is shown to be affected by the level
of equivocality and by the perceived level of task complexity, and results in increased
group cohesiveness and faster and less costly future actions. In conclusion the authors
argue in favor of a contingency view of organizational improvisation and contend
that our model suggests the possibility of a dialectical approach to organizational
improvisation.
