The paper distinguishes between two types of inter-firm alliances: endogamy and exogamy.
Endogamy occurs when partners share related profiles. On the opposite, exogamy appears
when allies exhibit unrelated profiles. It is suggested that endogamy serves for
accumulating similar resources and gaining scale effects while exogamy allows the
combination of differentiated competences and the achievement of symbiotic effects.
Two different cases are employed to infer practical recommendations regarding how
these different types of partnerships should be managed.

This paper attempts to analyze the association between corporate governance - measured
by the exercise of control by larger shareholders and the board of directors- and
corporate entrepreneurship for businesses quoted on the Madrid Stock-Exchange. Under
the hypothesis of management opportunist behavior and being consistent with agency
theory, this paper contrasts the existence of a greater corporate entrepreneurship
when an effective control over the management does not exist, and the executives
are significant shareholders. Thus, the authors examine two sources of influence
on managerial support for corporate entrepreneurship: the firms ownership structure
and its governance system. Their objective was to understand how firm characteristics
-in terms firm corporate governance attributes- influences the decisions about entering
in new businesses or markets.

This paper examines the refocusing activity of multi-business firms in the European
Union.
Theory and empirical data are offered to argue that diversification has diminished
during the 90s,
although not as vastly and widespread as we expected. In this paper, you may seek
an explanation for the observation that most of the firms the researches study remain
remarkably diversified. Therefore, the author investigate the extent and determinants
of diversification and refocusing across a sample of 277 leading European manufacturing
firms. The results confirm that refocusing happens mainly at firm level. Above that,
the author refine the general refocusing belief in distinguishing between conglomerate
diversification and technology and market concentric diversification. You may also
see that conglomerate diversification decreases throughout the 90s, but that the
resource based technology and market concentric diversification are gaining momentum.

This paper argues that executives and managers need to reevaluate and to reengineer
their performance measurement system to make it more pertinent so that it would serve
as an effective trigger as well as a critical piloting and control mechanism for
effecting strategic management intervention.

The topic of entrepreneurship has been the subject of a considerable amount of academic
interest over the last twenty years. Despite a vast amount of published work there
have been very few attempts to study the entrepreneurial process. In other words,
we know little of the what happens as an entrepreneur moves from idea to the objective
reality of a fully functioning business. A more recent phenomenon has been the shift
from a focus on entrepreneurial traits to the study of entrepreneurial networks.
This is recognition that even the most individualistic of entrepreneurs rely heavily
on their social relationships during the creation of a new business. These two factors,
networks and the entrepreneurial process, are brought together in this paper which
utilises a first-hand account of activities associated with business startups. The
paper also examines the way in which MBA education provides useful skills to even
the most experienced entrepreneur.

In this paper we present the results of an exploratory study about specific organizative
characteristics that innovative companies possess. This study is part of a wider
research work about the innovative behavior of firms (Camelo et al, 2001). The case
study about four organizations included in the Andalusian Innovations Network reveals
that certain factors do exist which behave as the literature supposes they should,
along with other factors which are also worthy of consideration given that they contribute
to improving our understanding of innovation within a company.

Building on coevolution theory and existing knowledge about strategic and organizational
change, this paper develops a conceptual framework for studying change in organizations
as coevolution. The focus is on how organizations create constructed environmental
conditions, hence forming the context for themselves and other organizations and
their environment. The paper illustrates this problematic by focusing on the interplay
between public and private organizations. A set of propositions and an integrated
framework laying the ground for future empirical research are developed.
