When people in an organization or community get together and work for change, the result can be powerful. But managing group dynamics is often difficult. This unique guide showcases 18 tried-and-true methods for facilitating change in a group situation, each explained by an expert who developed or elaborated the method. The book explains what each method is rather than how to do it, with extensive suggestions for further reading.

Henry Mintzberg
Изд-во: Harpercollins College Div, 1973, 298 с.
These notes summarise the main conclusions of MIntzberg's early 1970's conclusions of the (nature of managerial work). He observed the everyday activities of senior managers and offered telling conclusions to be compared with the limited definitions of managerial functions from the classical and human relations schools e.g. Fayol - to forecast, plan, organisation, command/motivate, communicate, review and control or leadership models which recommend various task and relationships-oriented behaviours. Mintzberg presents a picture of an all-consuming role for managers and prescriptions about how to behave or techniques to use should be treated with caution. His conclusions, although related to senior management, seem to reflect the demanding job roles of the mid-1990's - the post-In Search of Excellence, matrix management, lean and down-sized organisation era.

Karen Stephenson
Изд-во: Pearson Higher Education, 2007, 256 с.
How and where do things really get done in your business? Who are your visionaries, back-stabbers and unsung heroes? Where do ideas start and initiatives really get stuck? Real working knowledge lies in the relationships between employees. Your organizational chart will tell you about authority, but it doesn't always show how things get done, created or communicated. You know the rules, but you don't know the ropes. For that, you need a map to the network, the corresponding informal structure that is usually invisible. In The Quantum Theory of Trust, the World's leading expert on network science, Karen Stephenson, introduces the analysis of networks to identify the personalities and patterns of organisations, and shows how to manage the personal currency that counts in good networks - trust

Keith Sisson, John Storey
USA: Open University Press, 2000, 286 с.
The book provides a succinct up-to-date analysis of themes and topics relevant to the management of human resources today. It covers issues of critical contemporary importance such as restructuring, continuous improvement, involvement and participation, pay and working time, training and development, recruitment and selection. It also looks at the implications of contextual changes such as the signing of the ''social chapter'' of the EU Maastricht Treaty, and movement towards European Economic and Monetary Union. It deals with both the individual and the collective aspects of managing the employment relationship, analyses the latest thinking in both areas taking account of the large body of empirical research that is now available.
