This paper discuss the design of multidimensional yardstick based procurement auction. The suggested design combines Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) based yardstick schemes with the multidimensional score auction. The principal select a single winner to perform a project, characterized by a multidimensional vector. The design is especially useful when there are uncertainty about the underlying common cost structure as well as the principal’s valuation function. Potential applications in natural resource management is provided.

This paper provides two illustrations of boundary spanning activities. The first one is the research program FENIX, described mainly by its basic ideas and logics, and the second one is a description of a research set-up at Volvo Car Corporation (VCC), based on the FENIX logic. The authors call the set-ups yellow field. Both illustrate concrete set-ups of management research, albeit on different levels of organizing research. The FENIX case describes the in our view some key characteristics of a research program, enabling the development of innovative management research, i.e. the prerequisites for the research process. The VCC case shows how these notions could be translated into operational management research, and, management development.

We seek to quantify and evaluate the supply (yield) response of wheat and cotton in Pakistan using cointegration analysis and annual data for 1960-96. The results reveal that wheat supply is significantly influenced by the prices of wheat, cotton and fertilizer, the percentage area under high yielding wheat varieties, and the rabi season (winter) water availability. The cotton supply is found to be significantly influenced by the real cotton price, the real fertilizer price, and the irrigated area. The wheat supply was found to be inelastic both in the short- and long-run. However, cotton supply was elastic in the long-run.
