Managing staff performance is an effective mechanism for developing both staff and
organizational growth. By clarifying an organization's objectives, translating these

For a one semester introductory course in personal finance.
This text is written directly to the student. The only 4-color designed personal
finance text introduces the student to the concepts, tools, and applications of personal
finance and investments. In order to leave a lasting impression, this book concentrates
on the fundamentals and underlying principles of personal finance, rather than focusing
on equations and specific tools which are more easily forgotten. Building on the
15 Axioms of Personal Finance, the text helps the students develop an intuitive understanding
not only of the process of financial planning, but also the logic that drives it.

Edward Lazear
Изд-во: Wiley, 1998, 529 с.
In this new book, Personnel Economics for Managers, Professor Lazear answers these
and many other personnel management questions. His unique approach, using economics
to explore human resource topics, builds human resource systems as an entire structure
with no one department independent of another. After reading this book, you will
finally have a detailed analysis in a field that has traditionally lacked the resources
to back up theories and statements

This volume serves as an introduction to the field of positive political economy
and the economic and political processes with which it is concerned. This new research
tradition is distinct from both normative and historical approaches to political
economy. Grounded in the rational-actor methodology of microeconomics, positive political
economy is the study of rational decisions in a context of political and economic
institutions. More analytical than traditional approaches, it is concerned with the
derivation of principles and propositions against which real-world experience may
be compared. Its focus is on empirical regularities, and its goal is theoretical
explanation.
The field has focused on three main areas of research: models of collective action, constraints on competitive market processes, and the analysis of transaction costs. Developments in all of these areas are covered in the book. The first part of the volume surveys the field, while the second part displays positive political economy at work, examining a variety of subjects. The final part contains essays by leading political economists on the theoretical foundations of the field.

This book presents diverse perspectives on how work and employment are developing
in a rapidly changing, contemporary Japan. Using macro- and micro-level data, the
authors show both how the Japanese employment system is evolving as well as how the
meanings that individual Japanese attach to their work and employment are developing.
It is useful to anyone with an interest in work and employment in Japan, from scholars
and specialists in HRM and management, to economists, sociologists and anthropologists.

In qualitative management research the researcher is sometimes confronted with
questions about the use of theory, the value of the empirical findings and the relation
between the researcher and his/her informants. This paper presents
phenomenography as a research method and describes how the phenomenographic
researcher tries to struggle with these dilemmas. At the same time it presents the
argumentation for a practical use of the method also in management research.

Philosophic Inquiry in Sport [книги]

Champaign: Human Kinetics, 1988, 546 с.
The aim of this work is to present an anthology devoted to the philosophy of sport
covering classic and recent literature. The intended audience is undergraduate and
graduate students and scholars interested in sport in general. There are six parts.
As an avid reader of the philosophy of sport, the author "find it quite relevant
to
any interest
in parapsychology. In both parapsychology and sport the primary goal is to transcend
physical limits. Moreover, ESP and PK tests, both informal and formal, can be classed
in a game paradigm and some of them have been deliberately devised as games or forms
of competition. In this connection, the chapters in Parts II and III are especially
relevant. In PK, the analogy between parapsychology and sport is more apt. It is
my guess that at the limits of human possibility where new records are set wherein
humans transcend all previous limits and are the first to do so some form of psi
may be involved, though it is not possible to separate it from the many physical,
physiological, psychological, social, and even sociological factors involved. For
these reasons this book provides a very useful introduction to the philosophy of
sport".

Thomas Hall
Spon Press, 1997, 398 с.
During the nineteenth century many of Europe's capital cities were subject to major
expansion and improvement schemes. From Vienna's Ringstrasse to the boulevards of
Paris, the townscapes which emerged still shape today's cities and are an inalienable
part of European cultural heritage. In Planning Europe's Capital Cities, Thomas Hall
examines the planning process in fifteen of those cities and addresses the following
questions: when and why did planning begin, and what problems was it meant to solve?
who developed the projects, and how, and who made the decisions? what urban ideas
are expressed in the projects? what were the legal consequences of the plans, and
how did they actually affect subsequent urban development in the individual cities?
what similarities or differences can be identified between the various schemes? how
have such schemes affected the development of urban planning in general? His detailed
analysis shows us that the capital city projects of the nineteenth century were central
to the evolution of modern planning and of far greater impact and importance than
the urban theories and experiments of the Utopians.

Arturo Almondoz
Изд-во: Routledge, 2002, 288 с.
More than anywhere else in the world, Latin American capitals were influenced by
the importation of European urban culture and urbanism. While the urban and planning
history of some of these cities has been studied, particularly in Spanish, this is
the first comprehensive work in English to describe the social and morphological
evolution of the capital cities of Latin America, as the most conspicuous stages
of the Europeanism during the post-colonial period. The transfer of urban ideas through
European models and representatives is explored, showing how this importation lead
to the development of urbanism as a discipline in the countries concerned. In his
introductory chapters Arturo Almandoz provides a historical survey of Latin American
urban development and reviews the period most influenced by European ideas -from
mid-nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century, after which American influence led to
a very different, technically-based approach to planning. There follows a series
of case studies devoted to individual cities, each extensively illustrated and written
by authorities on the city concerned. The cities are Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro
and Sao Paulo, Santiago de Chile; Mexico City, Lima; Havana, Caracas, San José.

Playing the part: reflections on aspects of mere performance in the customer-client
relationship [книги]
Опубликовано на портале: 24-12-2002
Heather Hopfl
2002
This paper attempts to analyse Diderot's conception of the actor's skills in relation
to the construction of professional competence. In particular, it seeks to give attention
to the ways in which mere performance is required in the servicing of a role. When
Diderot compares the actor's skill as similar to that of the whore he is making reference
to the way in which the nature of the relationship with the other - actor-audience,
customer-client - involves putting merely a part of oneself into the role, into the
performance, while others aspects of the person are held back. There are many day-to-day
references to the experience of work in such terms and the notion of work as "abuse"
is not unfamiliar. Here the intention is to analyse the relationship between performance
and the emotional repertoire which is used in the service of such performance.
