Proposals for agricultural trade reform put forward by the main protagonists remain far apart, with little sign of convergence. In an attempt to progress the negotiations towards a successful outcome, the chairman of the WTO Committee on Agriculture has proposed a compromise. The alternative proposals by the United States, the European Union and the WTO are analysed with the Agricultural Trade Policy Simulation Model, a static, multi-commodity, multi-region, partial equilibrium trade model. The estimated annual global welfare gains are $26 billion, $12 billion and $17 billion respectively. Least developed countries, as a group, gain from the US proposal but are made worse off under the WTO and EU proposals. Furthermore, in the best case many individual countries experience welfare losses. However, all countries enjoy increased export revenues and tariff revenues hold up quite well under the two less stringent proposals.

In this paper, authors investigate differences in entry wages, and wage growth for young male and female workers during their first 2 decades in the labour market. Their analysis looks at Germany, and consider skilled workers who all went through the German apprenticeship system. There is a line between jobs which are predominantly male, jobs which are predominantly female, and jobs which have fairly equal percentages of the two gender. Individuals choose either of these occupational categories. Results show that wage growth is steeper in female jobs for both males and females. This is in contrast to what life cycle models explaining job selection would predict. The explanation is that male jobs are traditionally blue collar jobs, while female jobs are predominantly service jobs. The technological changes over the passed two decades may have enhanced productivity more in the latter category.

This paper concerns a certain way of approaching and analysing the practice of management in terms of performance and theatrical events. It discusses a theatrical mode of communication, and aims at exploring the dividing line between public/private within managerial practices and procedures. A manager presents him or her self in public. Here some concepts and insights are brought from the discipline of theatre studies, and analogously, management is regarded as performative acts and as managerial styles are becoming expressed through series of actions. The aim of the paper is first and foremost to discuss a methodological framework for applying theatre studies to management research (for example, costume design, lighting effects, dramaturgy of events), and to discuss some illustrating examples.

This paper discusses the different incentives of managers versus firm owners to invest in innovative activities. Economic theory proposes different incentives in owner-led firms and manager-controlled firms. In the first place, the impact of risk on the incentive to invest in R&D are compared for the capital-led and the managerial firm. On the one hand, the risk of dismissal for the manager implies less innovative investment than in the traditional capital-led firm. On the other hand, innovative activity will most likely increase the growth rate and therefore the size of a firm. This is a positive stimulus for R&D in the managerial firm.

This paper focuses on managerial ethics research from an intercultural and international business perspective. This new and highly complex research area remains under-researched in comparison with other fields of study in international business management. The paper begins with an overview of a number of exploratory empirical analyses of ethical decision making among comparable groups in Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America. Recommendations derived from a critical evaluation of these pilot studies are then incorporated into the design of a large-scale cross-sectional empirical analysis of managerial and economic ethics across socioeconomic and cultural environments. Specific suggestions for sample selection, integration of qualitative and quantitative approaches, and instrumentation are included.

In organization theory a schism has developed between the traditional organizational behavior literature, based in psychology, sociology and political science, and the more analytically rigorous field of organizational economics. The former stresses the importance of managerial leadership and cooperation among employees, while the latter focuses on the engineering of incentive systems that will induce efficiency, and profitability, by rewarding worker self-interest.
