The current study investigated the odd-even psychological pricing strategy practiced in the restaurant industry. It presented and tested the Price Ending Strategies and Consumer Response Behavior (PrESCRB) model developed for this study. The marketing aspect (Study I) of the model postulates that restaurant marketers use a 99-price ending to signal value in the quick service restaurant segment, and a 00-price ending to signal quality in the fine dining restaurant segment. This dissertation consists of two essays that examine potential ways to reduce pollution through economic incentives. The first essay uses plant-level data to examine the effects of inspections and enforcement actions on compliance with water pollution permits by plants in the pulp and paper industry. The objective of this study is to examine the financial characteristics of farmers in North Central Kansas and to relate this to the number of and types of lender that they choose to use. Specifically, the study is concerned with analyzing the changes, if any, of the use of nontraditional lenders such as John Deer and Case credit. To meet this objective, econometric analysis was used to determine which farm characteristics affect the market share of loans that different lenders have and how this has changed over time.
