"Poverty: scale, reproduction, and social spectrum" focuses on the studies of economic
stratification in Russia as a result of uneven incomes and material wealth distribution.
The main goal of the study was to find out where the poor fit into the overall stratification
picture, and to follow up the trajectory of this change during the late 1990th and
early 21st century. The data of "The Russian population's economic condition and
health" project for 1994-2002 served as a major information source. The individuals'
place on the scale of economic stratifications is seen as determined by the
scale of economic stratification size of money incomes related to regional living
standard. Levels of poverty, and character of its reproduction are described in the
paper, as well as social spectrum of poverty and contribution of specific social
groups to overall poverty in the country. Mainlines of social policies to overcome
the phenomenon in varying groups are discussed.
