"Men and women in sciences: a double portrait" (by Natalya Vinokurova) describes
experiences and analyzes empirical data of surveys related to male/female differentiation trends
among Russia's scientists. Scholarly status, research activities and efficiency of the research,
size of main incomes, reasons of inferior numbers of women as compared to men, and lack of
equal opportunities form the core of the article material. Despite the differences, there were
found no antagonisms between the scholars of both sexes, for most of men recognize the
situation as abnormal and plead for fair academic promotion of their colleagues.
