Sociology of consumption: basic approaches

In this article raises some basic aspects of relatively new field of studyng sociology of consomption. Specifics of economic and sociological approach to analyzing consumption are characterized, as well as a general definition of the notion consomption. Problems of consumer are investigated in the light of traditional economic theory. Futher, proceeding to economic and sociological conceptions, the author represents consumption as a means of social differentiation and construction of styles soace, and demonstrates its symbolic aspect. The paper suggests - in conclusion - an analyzis of trends in contemporary consumerist society as an aspect of alienating and innovative practices.
