"Russian peasants' resettling" (by Audrey Alexeyevich Issaev) presents excerpts from Issaev's book
"Pereseleniya v russkom narodnom khosyaistve" (Resettlements in the Russian national economy)
(St.-Petersburg, 1891). The chapters are based on an empirical study among the Russian peasants moving
to Siberia in the late XIX. Interviews, statistical data, and observations permitted A.A. Issaev to obtain
significant finding about social composition of the migrants, their economic situation, the institute of
scouts (khodoki), conditions during the journey to the destination place, death rates underway,
relationships with the aboriginal peoples, rites, mores and traditions of the Russian people. The work is a
fundamental contribution to the developing Russian economic sociology.
