Course Requirements: Midterm Examination (one hour), Final Examination, Term Paper, and participation in Discussion Sections. These requirements count toward the final grade with the following weights: Final Examination 40%, Term Paper 25%, Mid-Term 25%, Discussion Section 10%. Midterm will take place on November 4 and the term paper will be due on January 14. A final examination is tentatively scheduled for January 19.

There will be a brief diagnostic test in the third week of classes. It will be graded, but the grade does not count toward the final grade.

The Mid-Term and Final examinations ask students to write brief responses to questions and one or two longer essays. The Term paper need not present original research, but students are encouraged to carry out their own research. We will provide assistance in identifying data for research and with statistical analysis as needed.
