The Economic Impacts of the Texas Wine and Wine Grape Industry in the State’s Economy. Wine grape growing and wine making in Texas have taken place for over three hundred years. In 1900, Texas had 20 to 30 wineries, but the majority of these did not survive prohibition. By the late 1960s, only one winery remained operating in the state. In early-to-mid 1970s, wine grape growing and wine making activities experienced a rebirth in the state. Currently, there are 28 wineries in the state which produce between 800000 and 1300000 gallons of wine annually. In this study, the Texas wine and wine grape industry’s economic impacts on the Texas economy were estimated. The results show that for 1997 the wine and wine grape industry will have an impact of $95.4 million on total economic activity, $32.9 million on income, $51.8 million on total value added above farm production, and the creation of 1289 jobs of the state’s economy. Also, this study describes the procedures that could be used to estimate and update the economic impacts of the sectors on the state’s economy. область –Agricultural Economics
