«Office plankton» as a resource for the existing political regime?

русская версия

Опубликовано на портале: 01-02-2012
The article analyzes values and behavioral patterns of representatives of a particular social group, namely office employees (sometimes pejoratively called ‘office plankton’). They are compared with values and behavioral patterns characterizing other Russians. A series of mass surveys conducted from December 2009 to April 2011 is used for this purpose. It appears that political values and declared norms of political behavior of office employees do not significantly differ from those of other Russians. At the same time, patterns of consumption of the two groups differ
significantly, especially as far as technologically advanced products are concerned. This makes office employees a good candidate for the role of a principal.
actor of the ‘conservative modernization’, i.e. government’s efforts to adapt modern technologies without changing the prevailing model of power.
