On the analysis of pretheoretical foundations of social studies in education: explication of basic metaphors

This article covers the analysis of metaphorical foundations of social studies in education. The authors show mechanics of research languages used for description with specific reference to their empiric projects. On the basis of the theory of metaphor which serves as an instrument to explicate axiomatic assumptions, they regard social studies as a sequence of “translations” or “transfers” between impenetrable linguistic worlds (world of common sense, world of social science theories, world of management decisions). Methodological implications of metaphorical shifts and effects of “an uncontrolled metaphorical expansion” are discussed in the article.
