Individual differences in learning capacities: opportunities and prospects of psychogenetic studies

This article emphasizes the significance of a scientific experimental method of studying the nature of individual differences: it implies search for an answer to the question, why when there is relative uniformity of an educational milieu, students differ in cognitive, personal and motivational characteristics. It is shown that individual differences in cognitive and learning capacities form in the course of complex processes of a genotype-milieu interaction. For solving the major problem in education — rise in the general level of academic performance of all students by means of individually-aligned training methods — the authors suggest to use genetically susceptible methods of studying mechanisms which underlie individual differences in learning capacities in different subject fields.
