Country of origin labeling and brand labeling play important roles in affecting purchasing behavior of buyers in the Korean beef supply chain. This paper presents a model which explain differences in the attitudes and purchase behaviors of three marketing groups regarding country of origin and other important quality attributes. The results show some of the diversity of buyers’ attitudes, preferences and willingness to pay for different country of origin and brand of foreign packers in three marketing groups.

Jean-Jacques Laffont
Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2002
Laffont here constructs a normative approach to constitutional design using recent developments in contract theory. He treats political economy as the study of the incentive problems created by the delegation of economic policy to self-interested politicians. Treating politicians successively as informed supervisors or residual decision-makers, he characterizes the optimal constitutional responses to the activities of interest groups in various circumstances, as well as the optimal trade-off between flexibility of decision-making and discretion to pursue personal agendas.

Bennett T. Mccallum
The recently-developed fiscal theory of price level determination contends that there is an important class of policy rules in which there exists a unique rational expectations solution that shows the price level to be dependent upon fiscal policy and independent of monetary variables. The present paper argues, however, that there is an alternative solution to these models that has entirely traditional (or monetarist') properties. This latter solution is perhaps the more plausible since it is the solution that is typically regarded as the bubble-free fundamentals' solution. The argument involves a respecification of feasible instrument variables.

This paper uses data from a survey of more than 1,400 farming households in Hungary to identify a set of profiles of farming households, which are active in the rental market and to estimate econometrically the impact of household characteristics, such as social, physical, and human capital, as well as regional and environmental characteristics on land rental activities. We show that the decision of farming households to lease in land is related to their land endowment, their access to capital assets, human capital variables such as age and education and their social capital. Environmental factors are also important.

Neoclassical economics assumes that people are highly rational and can reason their way through even the most complex economic problems. In Individual Strategy and Social Structure, Peyton Young argues for a more realistic view in which people have a limited understanding of their environment, are sometimes short-sighted, and occasionally act in perverse ways. He shows how the cumulative experiences of many such individuals coalesce over time into customs, norms, and institutions that govern economic and social life. He develops a theory that predicts how such institutions evolve and characterizes their welfare properties.

Andrei Shleifer
Изд-во: Oxford University Press, 2000, cерия "Clarendon Lectures in Economics", 224 с.
The efficient markets hypothesis has been the central proposition in finance for nearly thirty years. It states that securities prices in financial markets must equal fundamental values, either because all investors are rational or because arbitrage eliminates pricing anomalies. This book describes an alternative approach to the study of financial markets: behavioral finance. This approach starts with an observation that the assumptions of investor rationality and perfect arbitrage are overwhelmingly contradicted by both psychological and institutional evidence. In actual financial markets, less than fully rational investors trade against arbitrageurs whose resources are limited by risk aversion, short horizons, and agency problems. The book presents models of such markets. These models explain the available financial data more accurately than the efficient markets hypothesis, and generate new predictions about security prices. By summarizing and expanding the research in behavioral finance, the book builds a new theoretical and empirical foundation for the economic analysis of real-world markets.

Jonas Pontusson
Ithaca: Cornell University Press, 2005, 256 с.
What are the relative merits of the American and European socioeconomic systems? Longstanding debates have heated up in recent years with the expansion of the European Union and increasingly sharp political and cultural differences between the United States and Europe. In Inequality and Prosperity, Jonas Pontusson provides a comparative overview of the two major models of labor markets and welfare systems in the advanced industrial world: the "liberal capitalist" system of the United States and Britain, and the "social market" capitalism of northern Europe. These two models balance concerns of efficiency and equity in fundamentally different ways. In the 1990s the much-heralded forces of globalization (together with demographic changes and attendant political pressures) seemed to threaten the very existence of the social-market economies of Europe. Were the social compacts of Sweden and Germany outmoded? Would varieties of capitalism remain possible, or were labor-market and social-welfare arrangements converging on the U.S. norm? Pontusson opposes the notion of inevitable convergence: he believes that social-market economies can survive and indeed flourish in the contemporary world economy. He bases his argument on an enormous amount of highly specialized research on eighteen countries, using national-level data for the last thirty years. Among the areas he explores are labor-market dynamics, income distribution, employment performance, wage bargaining, firm-level performance, and the changing possibilities for the welfare state.

Amartya Sen
Harvard: Harvard University Press, 1995, 224 с.
Sen (economics and philosophy, Harvard U.) shows how all the major approaches to the ethics of social arrangements demand equality of something, but not of the same thing. Because when some things are equal others are not, he argues, let us equalize higher and more basic values, such as the freedom to achieve objectives.

Since the opening of the Russian economy in January 1992, exchange rate policy has become an important instrument in the reform and stabilization process. After the real effective exchange rate of the agriculture and food sector had risen continuously since 1992, the introduction of the target system in June 1995 supported its stabilization from 1994.

The changed exchange rate policy leading to low inflation resulted in high real interest rates, deteriorating potential domestic investment possibilities. However, the breakdown of the foreign exchange market and the financial system in summer 1998 has revealed that establishing a target system is no panacea for economic problems, even though it is a credible nominal anchor in a comprehensive reform package.
