"Legacy of the Soviet gender order in contemporary employment behavior" (by Sarah Ashwin, London) is based on the first round of a qualitative research project designed to understand gender differences in employment strategy during economic transition. It focuses on the influence of the identities from the Soviet past on male and female employment behavior. The fact that women were always in a secondary position at work in those times means that it is generally easier for them to accept the indignities of 'flexibility' than it is for men, whose primary arena for self realization in the Soviet era was work.
