русская версия

Опубликовано на портале: 30-11-2006
The author discusses state of affairs in Russian Alanic Studies. Existence of the people of Alans is outlined with I – XV centuries A.D., as their "descendants" is considered itself a number of the contemporary peoples of the Caucasus: first of all there are Ossetians, then Chechens, Ingushs, Karachai, Balkars. Appeal to the Alanic past is actively used today for the substantiation of "historical right" to the questionable territories. One of the reasons for politicization of Alanic history is the non-professionalism of researchers. The article accentuates attention in the common feature of the majority of specialists in the Alanic problems: ignorance of the language of sources. The typical cases of the distortion of history with the use of Russian translations instead of originals are discussed using the material of Greek and Latin sources. It is the return to the roots of science and to the study of direct traces of the past which become hot-potato issue for the historians. As ancients said, it is necessary ex fonte ipse bibere (to drink out of the source itself).
