This course covers both building blocks and special topics in the field of labor economics.

Topics 1 and 2 cover the basic building blocks of labor economics: labor demand and labor supply.
Topic 3 focuses on both theoretical and empirical analyses of the sources of wage differentials, including human capital, employer wage differentials, and discrimination.
Topic 4 presents new developments on the intergenerational transmission of inequality and the role of social capital in generating persistence in inequality.
Topic 5 turns to explanations of the recent rise in inequality around the globe, including skilled-biased technological change, international trade, and immigration.
Topic 6 focuses on unemployment and the role of labor market institutions.

(Readings marked with an asterisk will be covered in detail, other readings are optional).
