This course addresses the significant issues related to managing technology in a corporate environment from both strategic and tactical perspectives. It is designed to meet the needs of students who one day, either as managers, consultants or entrepreneurs, must understand the use of technology as a powerful tool of competitive advantage and growth. Emphasis is given to the new challenges facing managers as they seek to make R&D serve the needs of the corporation in an increasingly competitive global marketplace.

This course will focus on the management and consequences of technology-based innovation. We will examine how industries are transformed by new technologies, how managerial action can shape product/service class evolution, and how managerial competencies can affect the innovation performance of their organizations. We also explore the challenges of strategic innovation in organizations. Because innovation often involves organization change, we also focus on the challenges and pragmatics of managing organizational change.

The purpose of the course is to treat decision-making process in organizations as a multistage process involving different structures corresponding to different methods of action. From this point of view, one can distinguish three major classes of methods - randomized, aesthetic, and scientific. The core of the course is the development of the aesthetic method, which is based on a semiordered incomplete and inconsistent program linking the beginning and the end in some indeterministic situations.

The aim of this course is to explore how the challenge of change in organizations can be managed effectively. The basic premise of the course is that change is often precipitated by external drivers such as technological innovation, deregulation, industry consolidation, new political priorities, and/or persistent performance problems. The challenge of change is to recognize the drivers and to develop and implement strategies to meet them effectively. Over the course of the semester, we will explore and evaluate various approaches, both theoretical and on the ground, to the challenge.

This course examines management of diversity at many levels and multiple arenas.The main focus of this course is the advantages and disadvantages of diversity in organizations and teams.

This course cover topics such as:

1. What are the mechanisms by which diversity emerges, disappears or is sustained?

2. What are the economic and social implications of diversity with respect to ethnicity, age, socioeconomic status, gender and culture on team, and firm performance in general and on decision making and information processing in particular.

3. What advantages can a diverse firm exploit in competing with less diverse firms?

This course will present useful analytical concepts from the disciplines of social psychology, sociology and economics.

It is imperative that managers have an understanding of the concepts of innovation and entrepreneurship and the skills and competencies to apply this knowledge effectively. The aims of this subjects are: to provide an in-depth study of the concepts of innovation, entrepreneurship and appreciation of the environment in which they are practiced; and to study and to appraise the theory and practice of resource acquisition and utilisation. This subject includes the following topics: opportunity recognition: the innovation and entrepreneurial process, new venture ideas, opportunity recognition and screening; market opportunities: the market how to analyse it, determining the competitive advantage; human resource issues: the entrepreneurial mind- entrepreneuring, the new venture team; identifying and marshalling key stakeholders; financial considerations; the innovator and entrepreneurial approach to the acquisition of resources, the plan, valuing, negotiating and structuring the proposal; ownership and structure; and innovators in action.
